Having trouble with Word 2007 changing outline levels automaticall
Can anyone PLEASE tell me why word 2007 keeps changing my captions (and other
styles) from "body text" to "level 1" outline categories? I find the Document Map extremely helpful when working with large documents. But despite whatever efforts I make to apply the appropriate outline levels, each time I save, close and reopen my document they all reset to some whacked out combination of outline levels. |

Hi =?Utf-8?B?TWlWaWRhTG9jYQ==?=,

You should be able to control this in the Style definition. Display the Styles task pane. Click the arrow next to a style name that's giving you a problem and choose "Modify". From the "Format" button's list, choose "Paragraph". Change the "Outline level" setting for the style. Having trouble with Word 2007 changing outline levels automati
Hi
Thanks Cindy, Unfortunately that does not seem to work. I tried using Modify Style. I've also tried using the Style task pane to select all items with the same formatting - cleared them all then redefined the formatting (incase there was something hidden I was missing). I've also tried using the Style task pane to select all items with the same formatting, and used the Paragraph Task window. There is something less obvious going on that I cannot put my finger on. Any other thoughts? P.S. When I use Reveal Formatting it shows that the paragraph style is
correct, but there is direct formatting applied - but I'm not the one doing it. Hi =?Utf-8?B?TWlWaWRhTG9jYQ==?=,
When I use Reveal Formatting it shows that the paragraph style is correct, but there is direct formatting applied - but I'm not the one doing it. OK... If you hold down CTRL to start Word, then in a new document add some text, put in a couple of numbered headings (so that you know there's "outline levels" in the document) then some "objects" and insert captions for them... Do you still see the behavior? Are the captions assigned outline levels? If not, then you must have some kind of "add-in" doing this. Are you using any tools when working with your documents?
