Default e-mail sticks in out box

Using Outlook 2002 SP3 the following happens: When I send an email I get an
error message saying unknown error 0x80040109. The email sticks in the
outbox in bold, indicating it was not sent. However, the addressee receives
the email. If I open the email in the send box, it says this email has not
been sent. If I try to resend it, at 1st an error message comes up but then
the email is sent and goes to the Sent Items folder. The 2nd email is also
rec'd by the addressee.

If instead of resending the email a 2nd time, I move it to a folder, then
opent the folder, then click on (but not open) the email and the then click
on another message in the folder, the email subject goes from bold to greyed
out as if it was ent mail - but the sender identification does not show in
the folder.

Microsoft has a knowledge base item that says to adjust 2 items in the tools
- options - email settings but that does not help. I also tried closing
down all firewall and internet security items to see if the interference was
from Norton - it was not. Anyone have any ideas on how to solve this?
Thanks.
