Default Paragraph

is there a way to permanently delete the paragraph=20
markers? i.e., if i email a document to someone and don't=20
want them to see these markers, even if they click the=20
show/hide button on their computer? thanks.

No. They are part of the structure of the Word document. If the recipient
wants to see them that's a matter for him/her.

Hi Chris

No, you can't delete them. Word doesn't work without them. Further, some
people *want* to see them, as explained in the article Suzanne cited -- if
you mess with their view of the document, they'll come after you with a
sharp pencil! :-)

As Graham and Jay have said, you can't prevent users from seeing nonprinting
characters if that is their choice--*unless* you send your document as a
PDF. But knowing that the recipient may have nonprinting characters
displayed should be an incentive to you to include as few as possible. By
that I mean that you should never press Enter twice to put a "blank line"
between paragraphs (use Space Before/After instead), never press Tab more
than once to get to a tab stop (always set custom tab stops exactly where
they are needed), remove all excess spaces at the ends of paragraphs and
between sentences, etc.
