Excel 2007

I have a spreadsheet with 7 columns and 253 rows, one of the columns has a
checkmark if the person responded. I want to filter out all the checkmarks
and do a count on these and put these on a black spreadsheet and leave the
original in tact. I cannot figure this out in excel 7, please help.
