Default finding Chinese text

I've got a file with various Chinese characters scattered through it.
Is there a way I can search for these (i.e., so I can find all the
Chinese text, not a specific character). Font displays as ????? which
isn't searchable (obviously some real font is being used to display
them, but I can't tell what. Probably a font I don't have was used to
create the file, I've found it difficult before when English text is
formatted in a missing font.)

No, the text is real Chinese, but when I highlight it, literal
question marks (????) come up in the font info box. I've got a few
real Chinese fonts, Like MingLi, but it's not them, I can change the
font to one of these, but only manually.

Have you asked the originator of the document which font was used?
