Product Key Validity Check?

Hi, I work in a retail environment and we have an open software package
(Office H&S 2007). We need to find out the validity of the license key to see
if it is still sellable or not (May have been opened by one of our techs to
install as trial on another unit). So is there some kind of validity check to
see if the key has been used at all yet? Would hate to sell it and have a
customer come back saying it only allowed less than 3 installs.

Installing is not an option, because that means we would be using the key,
hence making the product unsellable.

No there is no such check and in fact you are abusing your
position to use retail versions as "trial" versions when in fact
not only Microsoft gives all bonafide retailers a copy for such
purposes but also there were trial versions on its website for
people to download.

Have you kept a record of these software you have used so that you
don't sell them to customers who would suffer otherwise because of
your stupidity!

As you noted the license would allow for three installs. There is NO
validity check available online or through the telephone with Microsoft.

Even if the license has been used and it has been more than 180 days (IIRC
on the time) the license should be able to be activated on all three
computers without any telephone support necessary. If the license was
activated less than 180 days the new owner would have to contact MS via the
telephone activation method which would "overwrite" the previous older
activation.

Sell it at a good discount with the customer being told that they may have
to use telephone activation. Ensure that the disk is in good shape and that
the activation key sticker is still on the slide-out tray. An informed
customer is a happy customer, especially since it is an opened package and
they can buy it cheap.

One, installing from CD, not using the KEY, indeed is a trial and is not
illegal.
