Default How to remove ctfmon

Here are instructions to prevent ctfmon.exe from starting on Windows XP.

Under Control Panel hit Regional and Language Options.
Click on the Languages Tab
Click Details.
Click ont he Advanced tab.
Check the box corresponding to Turn off advanced text services.

That's it!

Doesn't always work. I have that setup and yet ctfmon.exe still gets
loaded on Windows startup and login. Eventually I may resort to using
software restriction policies to ensure that the executable is not
allowed to load.

From this article, it mentions deleting the ctfmon.exe entry in the Run
key in the registry. I hadn't looked there. I deleted that entry
(actually I disabled it in WinPatrol which will prevent it ever getting
reinstalled in the Run key). Thanks since that KB article gave me the
hint to get rid of the ctfmon.exe process as a startup item. Their KB
282599 failed to mention the Run key.
