anyone know how to apply this to all foders under the inbox? I'm trying to
turn it off across the board, and am having trouble.

It only works when you have the all the folders still in their default view
and change the Messages view in View- Arrange By- Current View- Define
Views...

You're probably better of creating a new view and apply it to the folder on
first use.
