Thank you for your suggestion. I assume you are referring to uninstalling
Windows Messenger 5.0, and then re-installing it with anti virus turned off.

With McAffee, it's hard to be certain. I would try uninstalling the new
edition of Messenger, reboot the computer, then totally shut down McAffee.
When satisfied McAffee is no longer running, then try reinstalling the
upgrade and see if that works for you. Hopefully it will.

I use McAfee anti virus program but that hasn't changed while I was using
Windows Messenger 4.7.

Yes, everything is checked properly as you had pointed out.

Anyway thank you for trying to trouble shoot my problem.

Check your options in Outlook Express' menu, under View/Layout and make

sure
the box to Show Contacts is checked. If it is and they are still not
visibile, and you do not have more than 999 contacts, and you are *not*
sharing Contacts with Outlook, I have no idea why, unless you had a
recent
upgrade and while installing it, allowed an antivirus program to remain
running in the background. This often leads to a corrupted
installation/upgrade.

Is MS Outlook (or MS Office) also installed?

Do you have this Registry key?...

HKEY_CURRENT_USER
\Software
\Microsoft
\WAB
\WAB4

If not, STOP; If so, is there a DWORD named UseOutlook and is its value set
to 1 (one)?

If not, STOP; If so, Address Book is configured to share contacts with
Outlook, even if you don't use it (can happen with the install of Office).
Change the value to 0 (zero), Address Book should be available to you and
all should be well. (If that DWORD is not present, don't create it, and
don't alter any other DWORD values.)

Note that any changes (additions, deletions, edits) made while sharing was
enabled will not be available (displayed) in Address Book when sharing is
disabled.

I use Windows XP Home Edition SP1 and just today upgraded from
Windows
Messennger V4.7 to V 5.0 (5.00.482).

When I was using Windows Messenger 4.7, I was able to see the
Messenger's list on the left hand pane of Outlook Express (together
with my contact lists), but with V5.0 of Windows Messenger, the
people
on my Messenger
list
do not appear any longer in my Outlook Express.

Can some guide me how I can get my Messenger list appear as before on
my Outlook Express.?

Yes, I do have MS Office including Outlook installed altho I don't use
Outlook for sending mail.

I 'm afraid to play with registry so I won't touch it.

I may try uninstalling Win Messenger 5.0 with Antivirus off, and the
re-install it.

I tried your method by first turning off McAfee anti-virus and then
re-installing V5.0 but same problem exists. I am not able to see my
Messenger contact list in my Outlook Express contact list.

I then installed V4.7 over V5.0 but I get error message saying some .Net
component was missing. Even typing ID and password, I cannot log in.

I then re-installed V5.0 and I can use this version however I cannot see the
contact list in OE. Unless I open Windows Messenger, I don't know who are on
line.

If sharing Address Book contacts with Outlook is or was enabled, Address
Book may not now have any contacts to display in Preview pane, Sachi Noma.
