Default Visio for enterprise architects (SP2) can't open viso 2003 files

My Viso for EA is at level SP-2 10-0-5110 and received error message "...This
file cannot be opened because it was created with a newer or unrecognized
version of visio..." I de-installed my Visio 2003 when I installed the EA
product. What's up with this?

I don't work for Microsoft, but there are only 2 products for Visio 2003,
standard and professional. Possibly you created it in one and not the other.
I have the 2007 Beta version, it has all the architectural items in it.

Well, Boyd.. Thanks for the opinion but there is a Visio EA [e.g.
http://www.dotnet247.com/247referenc...6/131140.aspx] It appears that it
is based on Visio 2000 and 2002. So if you want Visio EA database generate
tools (which MS removed from Visio 2003) - AND - all the standard features of
Visio 2003 you must buy BOTH. Typical MS rip off - unless of course there is
a Visio EA upgrade that sovles this problem. So far there is none to be
seen....

Welcome to the world of the marketing wizard. When VEA was released, it was
in 2003 just before Visio 2003 was released. So they created a package with
Visio 2002 and wisely called the package VEA 2003. The full name should be
VEA 2003 with Visio 2002. Since then they have released VEA 2005 which
should be properly called VEA 2005 with Visio 2003. (It's part of Visio
Studio)

I love marketing people. Not!

You could do what I do.
I joined as a Microsoft developer.
I pay $300 a year and get 10 copies of everything Microsoft makes.
I can't re-sell but all my computers and kids have the latest products.
And server software.

Visual Studio for Enterprise Architects 2003 has the 2002 version of Visio.
Visual Studio 2005 has the 2003 version of Visio. Since Visio 2003 uses a
different file format, Visio 2002 can't open the files. There is a free
2003 Viewer available to view the files.

I'm not sure if the version that comes with VEA 2005 is SP2 or not, but it
should be a regular installation of Visio 2003 and should be able to be
upgraded to SP2 like any other version ofVisio 2003.

I'm sorry to inform you that when you try to apply the SP2 pakage it does
not find any visio. The exact message (because i use french version) is :

"La version attendue du produit est introuvable sur votre système" that
mean's that the version that the installation package attend for is not
found on the PC.

Can you dive deeper to know if there is an sp2 for Visio for enterprise
architect ?

Many thanks john.
