Default Help with backup and exporting/importing email messages and ad

Steve,
By chance I came across something you wrote that has solved my problem of
importing dbx files.
The reference is in : http://www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx#3

and you mentioned another way to import single files in section 4d. So I
went to that article that is in:
http://www.oehelp.com/backup.aspx

and using that method of creating a new folder in OE, accessing it once,
closing OE and removing this folder from the store location, then create a
folder with the same name and file extension (archiv.dbx) and copy the file I
want to import to that folder, then place it in the store folder area that
holds the dbx folders; when I then opened up OE the archiv folder there had
all of the data and I simply moved it back to my InBox.
So this works and the other methods did not for me. I gather this is a bug
in the OE software that will not allow direct import by the usual methods
described by many??

Hello Ron and others,
I presume all responders check responses from others on the forum so I
will address this to all. For some reason there were two other people
that
answered my inquiry but I no longer see them on the thread. I may have
inadvertently deleted their notes.?? Maybe they will come back.
I am confused about some of the items in "insideoe.com" regarding backup
and restore. If I am going to do an image restore I assume that all of
the
data, registry items, etc. will be replaced on this laptop. In
"insideo.com"
the simple backup addresses backing up accounts to a .iaf file. I have
done
that but it seems to me the .iaf file should be on the image restore and I
would not have to restore it?? Is that correct?
I am concerned about duplication of preimage messages that is in your
note. I have backed up all of the .dbx folders I want to return to the
restored computer, basically the Inbox and the Sentbox. My image backup
was
done three months ago and these two .dbx files now contain old messages
and
three months of new messages. If I restore both folders there will be a
lot
of duplication of the old messages that I want to avoid. Is there any way
to
restore only the three months of recent messages without going into both
folders and manually deleting the old data in both files and then
reexporting
them to my thumb drive? One of the responders that is no longer on the
thread asked if the .dbx folders in my image backup could be opened and
the
problem addressed there but that is not possible. Anyway appreciate any
suggestions you'll may have.

I was aware of that and made certain that was the first dbx folder to import.
But I still could not import the messages in the inbox.dbx folder until I
followed the method I came across in the two articles referenced in my
previous note. Steve Cochran talked about a bug in OE that is doing this.

Your first post stated that you backed up Inbox and Sent Items.
Now you are saying that you tried to import folder.dbx.
You can't import folders.dbx by itself.
When you are importing, you get a choice of all folders or selected folders.
Folders.dbx is not one of the folders that can be selected.

I backed up both folder.dbx and inbox.dbx. I then imported folder.dbx first
and presumably it was accepted; followed by inbox.dbx that was not accepted.
The import software only allows one folder to be imported at a time. Was
there some error I made at that juncture that caused inbox.dbx to not be
imported??

Default Help with backup and exporting/importing email messages and ad

You have to backup and import folder files as a group, (the entire message
store is the best way), not one at a time. See this for some information.

Well I didn't do that.
I reviewed the material in the site you quote
(http://www.insideoutlookexpress.com/backup/)
many time before acting and it does not spell out what you suggest. I
gather I should have named a different folder and backed up all the dbx files
into that folder and in OE imported that single folder containing all of the
dbx subfolders/files??
