You can create a gear by using Chris Roth's Polar Array from
http://visio.mvps.org/VBA.htm.

Create a circle of small circles then overlay a larger circle that goues
through all the smaller circles. Select all the circles and choose Fragment
under Operations. You can then select the center of the shape and drag it
away. This will leave the excess pieces in the otignal location and they can
be easily selected and deleted. Or if you are daring, you can select all the
shapes, then shift select the center and press delete.

There's an alternative method which semi-automates the process. See the

There are several methods discussed, and I have two versions of the same
technique at the end of the post.
