Importing Outlook 2000 pst file into Outlook 2002
I have just upgraded from Win & Office 2000 to XP by
rebuilding my machine, rather than upgrade packages. I have backed up my old Outlook 2000 pst, and need to import the contacts, emails, etc into my new Outlook XP (2002). I have tried creating a new account linked to the pst file, I have tried the file import option, and the file/open data file option. My PC is a standalone machine, so I'm not linked to a network. Outlook XP recognises the file and shows the Personal folder, but there are no contacts or emails shown in it. This process always worked if I had to rebuild 2000, how can I get it to work with XP? And I've read the slipstick articles - they haven't solved the problem. |

Importing Outlook 2000 pst file into Outlook 2002
You did not describe in sufficient detail what you did and what happened.
When you opened this PST file, what happened? To use another PST file (such as one from an earlier installation) and set it to be the default for your current installation of Outlook, you will first need to know the location and name of the PST file you'd like to use as your new default. Then use the following directions: - Go to Tools Options Mail Setup Data Files Add... - Add the PST you'd like as your new default, then Close OK to exit the Options dialog - Go to Tools E-mail Accounts View or change existing e-mail accounts - Select the PST you just added in the "Deliver New e-mail to the following location" dropdown (it will most likely appear just below the current default Personal Folders file) Finish - Exit and Restart Outlook - You can now close the previous default PST (R-click on that pst folder while in Folder View and select "Close foldername Folders"). If you have any information in your former PST that you'd like to transfer to your new default PST, you can drag and drop from one to the other before you close it. -- Russ Valentine [MVP-Outlook] wrote in message ... Importing Outlook 2000 pst file into Outlook 2002
I want to import the email messages from my previous
(Outlook 2000) pst into my new Outlook 2002 default folder - contacts, inbox, sent items, calendar, etc. I know where my old pst file is. I open Outlook 2002. I have tried using the import mechanism, the open data folder option, and the set up new default account. Each time, Outlook 2002 opens a Personal folder with the default folders, but no items. I have gone to the Tools - Options - Mail setup - Data Files, and the file is there and the file location is correct. I know I have items in my old pst file (it's about 55Mb), so why can I not see them in Outlook 2002? How did you transfer this PST file?
If you open it and it has no data, it is either not the correct file or it is corrupted. -- Russ Valentine [MVP-Outlook] wrote in message ... Importing Outlook 2000 pst file into Outlook 2002
I transferred it by copying it from my c drive to my d
drive (separate physical drives). I've only formatted my c drive, my d drive is for data only. I've got other older backups, and the same thing is happening with them, but I've restored them into Outlook 2000 before, so I don't understand why they won't go into Outlook 2002. If I could, I would uninstall Office XP and reinstall Office 2000 to see if it will open there again, but I'm not sure about being able to activate Office XP on the same product number again afterwards. Is this possible? Brian -----Original Message----- How did you transfer this PST file? Reinstalling Outlook 2000 won't help. PST files are perfectly compatible
between the versions. That is not the problem. What do you mean your data drive isn't formatted? You still did not tell me how you created this PST file. Importing Outlook 2000 pst file into Outlook 2002
I just found and copied the pst file created by Outlook
2000 from the outlook location to my backup folder, nothing else. And I didn't format my data hard disk when I moved from 2000 to XP, so everything I put there should be the same as before. Surely the data drive is formatted, though, or your OS wouldn't even see it.
I suspect you mean you just don't have an OS on that drive. Are you sure you copied the right file? The Inbox Repair Tool should have an icon in Office Tools. Importing Outlook 2000 pst file into Outlook 2002
My data drive is FAT32, but with no OS. And yes, I know
which files to copy - I've done this before, quite successfully. The inbox repair tool confirms the presence of folders but no items for each of the backups I have on my data drive. If I could, I would uninstall Office XP and reinstall Office 2000 to see if it will open there again, but I'm not sure about being able to activate Office XP on the same product number again afterwards. Is this possible? Brian -----Original Message----- How did you transfer this PST file? If you open it and it has no data, it is either not the correct file or it is corrupted. -- Russ Valentine [MVP-Outlook] wrote in message ... I want to import the email messages from my previous (Outlook 2000) pst into my new Outlook 2002 default folder - contacts, inbox, sent items, calendar, etc. Brian -----Original Message----- You did not describe in sufficient detail what you did and what happened. - Add the PST you'd like as your new default, then Close OK to exit the Options dialog - Go to Tools E-mail Accounts View or change existing e-mail accounts - Select the PST you just added in the "Deliver New e- mail to the following location" dropdown (it will most likely appear just below the current default Personal Folders file) Finish - Exit and Restart Outlook - You can now close the previous default PST (R- click on that pst folder while in Folder View and select "Close foldername Folders"). If you have any information in your former PST that you'd like to transfer to your new default PST, you can drag and drop from one to the other before you close it. -- Russ Valentine [MVP-Outlook] wrote in message ... I have just upgraded from Win & Office 2000 to XP by rebuilding my machine, rather than upgrade packages. And I've read the slipstick articles - they haven't solved the problem. . . . . |
