Cannot choose "series name" for label
Excel in Office XP offered the choice of "Series Name" "Category Name" or
"Value" in the "Format Data Series" popup. Now I have Office 2007 and it seems that Excel has lost the ability to choose. It looks like the only option available is to "Add data labels" which unfortunately labels the series with the value and not the series name. Is there a way to add the series name or get around this (without manually tpying it in which I am doing now?) |

Cannot choose "series name" for label
Hi,
To specify the ranges/values for the series data, labels and names you can use Select Data... Cannot choose "series name" for label
Hi Andy
Thanks, I am not trying to specify ranges or values, I am trying to add a series name without being forced to type it in manually. The data have existing series names and unlike Excel in Office XP, Excel 2007 appears to have lost the functionality of being able to choose between "series name" "category name" or "value" when adding labels. The only option that appears when right clicking is "add data label" and if I do that, it adds the value instead of the series name, which is idiotic if you ask me. It has to be somewhere unless MS severely downgraded functionality when developing Office 2007 but I have not been able to figure out how to label my data with series names other than typing it in manually into a text box. Cannot choose "series name" for label
Hi,
Now I get you. If you select the series and then via the ribbon use Chart Tools Layout Labels Data Labels More Data Label Options. You will get a dialog that allows you to select, SeriesName/ CategoryName/ Value. Plus you can change the Label Position. If you use the right-click Add Data Labels... you can then select the data labels and right-click and format Data labels... to get the same dialog.
