format contact phone numbers
Because of a recent need to reformat my hard drive to get rid of a virus, I
had to reinstall Outlook 2003 and its datafile and have had a few glitches. The one I'm working on now is that new contacts, when added, have their phones formatted as 4081234567. I prefer (408) 123-4567. The old contacts are all OK. Can anyone help me with this one? |

Set your dialing location correctly for your operating system.

I don't know. What Operating system are you using?
Usually it's done in Control Panel Phone and modem Options... -- Russ Valentine [MVP-Outlook] "John M" wrote in message ... where do i go to set my dialing locations? -- Thanks John M "Russ Valentine [MVP-Outlook]" wrote: Set your dialing location correctly for your operating system. -- Russ Valentine [MVP-Outlook] "reedj" wrote in message ... format contact phone numbers
Hi:
I am running Outlook 2003. When i went in to change the area code i was dialing from, that did it for the most part, but now it is adding a "+1" in front of the number, i.e. +1 (410) 555-1234. How do i get rid of the "+1"? -- Thanks John M "Russ Valentine [MVP-Outlook]" wrote: I don't know. What Operating system are you using? Outlook 2003 is not an operating system.
You appear to have configured Outlook to automatically add the country code to local numbers. You can toggle that option off in Contacts Actions Call Contact New Call Dialing Options... -- Russ Valentine [MVP-Outlook] "John M" wrote in message ... Hi: I am running Outlook 2003. No one expects you to be technically savvy. As long as you provide basic
information correctly we can fill in the blanks--like what operating system you are using. -- Russ Valentine [MVP-Outlook] "John M" wrote in message ... I am also having the same problem. I was able to get rid of the +1, (from
this post) but I also want to get rid of the area code. When I originally entered the contacts, I did not have area codes, but now, whenever I update a phone number, it automatically puts in the area code. I tried to remove it from the dialing properties, but it won't let me leave it blank for the area code. Any help would be greatly appreciated. You cannot change how Outlook masks phone numbers. Outlook uses standard
protocols. There is no need to change the format nor would doing so be advisable. -- Russ Valentine [MVP-Outlook] "mstrish53" wrote in message ... I am also having the same problem.
