Default Slide designs aren't showing up in the task pane in Powerpoint

The panel that shows the slide designs on the right has the slide designs (if
you hover over them the name shows up) but you can't see what they look like,
they just show like clear boxes. Is there a setting that needs to be changed?

Follow the tutorial to set your hardware acceleration back and see if it works:

If it still doesn't work,
check this out:

The 2nd link Shawn posted ("Disappearing or blank thumbnails in task panes"
http://pptfaq.com/FAQ00779.htm) has another link to

What add-ins are loaded?
http://www.pptfaq.com/FAQ00655.htm

Please run the code and the utility listed there. I'd be curious about the
results.
