Default Office 2000 problems

Hello,

I am trying to help a friend getting back control of her laptop. She's using
her Win98 laptop at home but also at her job (previous/old job) where some
restrictions seemed to have been setup. In fact I am not sure what's really
going on.
When she tries to open a Word document saved on the local drive, she gets
the message
that the document is locked by 'another user'. If you chose to open the
document read-only,
then, you receive the message that the document name or path is not valid
and Word suggest
to check the file permissions for the document or drive or to use the file
open dialog box to locate the document.
Using the Open dialog gives you the same result.
If I use the open dialog to browse thr root of the C drive, then I get
another message from Word saying:
"Some of the files that meet the search criteria my be missing from the
list. I/O error 82"
Trying to exit Word then is a pain.... the normal.dot file can't be saved
due to a file permission error...
Trying to open an Excel file gives you also the same kind of error about
read-only location, read-only file,...
If I try to create a new spreadsheet, I am getting the message that I don't
enough memory or disk space (neither is true).

Any idea?

Thank you for your help.

Just found out - c:\windows\temp was almost 1GB. Purged it and everything is
fine now ...
