Default email subject edit??

Is there a way to edit the subject line and/or message text of an incoming
email??? What about detaching attachments but keeping the message?

Often times, I'd like to change the subject because it doesn't really
describe the message or I want to edit the message text to make it shorter
or more clear, etc.

Thanks,
Layton

To edit the text and subject, you can simply click Forward to make the
changes and then either send it, or save it to Drafts. You can also delete
the attachment from the Attach field. The time of the e-mail will not be the
original time if that matters.

Or, you can File | Save As and save it as a .txt file. It will open with
Notepad where you can edit the text and when you want to send it, open a new
message window and Insert | Text and browse to where you saved it.

Other ways to remove attachments:

Save the message to the Desktop. File | Save as | Desktop | Save. Open it
with Notepad. Highlight and delete the attachment and drag the message back
to a folder in OE.

If you get a lot, this tool does this and more. You might find it
worthwhile.

Unfortunately, Outlook Express doesn't let you directly edit received or
sent mail messages.

There is a workaround, but it's tedious.
- Do a File, Save As to save the message to an *.EML file, or
drag-and-drop the message to Windows folder
- Then edit the file in Notepad or other text editor. Change the
Subject:, From: or other lines as desired.
- While you are there, you can also remove any attachments. For some
information on the formatting of attachments, see
http://pages.prodigy.net/michael_santovec/decode.htm
- Save the file.
- With OE5+, you can drag-and-drop the message back to an OE folder.
With OE4, you must double click the saved file from the Windows File
Explorer. It will open in a mail window. You can then select File,
Copy to folder.
- You can then delete the original message.

For some other ways to remove attachments:
- Forward the message to yourself, but delete the attachments from the
composition window (right click on the attachment icon) before sending.
However, this will alter the sender's name and the date/time received.
- Another option is one of these programs, which can remove attachments
