Default Error 2203 An internal error has occurred.

I cannot install my new copy of Office Home & Student 2007. I get the above
error message followed by (C:\Windows\Installer\6cdbc.msi -2147287035 )
when the installation process is about 25% finished.
This is following on the heels of having downloaded the trial version and
having that version become "corrupted" somehow to the point that I could not
upgrade it or uninstall it from the Add/Remove Program window. I have since
solved that issue & gotten the trial version completely removed, but the full
copy that I just purchased from Amazon will not install. I have exhausted my
trial version allowance.
BTW, I know nothing is wrong w/ the disc I purchased as my stepdaughter was
able to successfully load it onto her machine and we have not exhausted the
number of licenses.
I have Vista, 64bit.
Appreciate any help. Getting very frustrated.

You've most likely still got remnants of a previous installation of Office
2007 interfering - run the FixIt in this article:

How do I uninstall the 2007 Office suites if I cannot uninstall it by using
the "Add or Remove Programs" feature?

Default Error 2203: Office Professional 2007

Hey there! I had the same problem today. Go to the Start button, find the folder that says "Microsoft Office," left click it, and find where it says "Take Ownership." Once you do that, then try and reinstall it. Good luck!
