Default Microsoft Office Professional compatibility

I have purchased a new/licensed copy of Microsoft Office
Professional & Bookshelf Designed for Windows 95. I run
Windows 98 however the seller assured me the product would
be OK for 98.

Whilst I am able to create new documents no problem I
cannot open any existing Word, Excel, Access or Powerpoint
files ??

Should this product operate on 98 ??

Office 95 will work with Windows 98. I think the reason you can't open
existing Office documents is that they were created with Office 97 or newer
version. Word 95 and Powerpoint 95 use a different file format than Word
97-up and Powerpoint 97-up, and that's probably true for Excel and Access
too.
