Default Drop down list does not show when I click on the menu bar.

The drop down list does not show when I click on the items on the menu bar.
Example, if I click on File. The drop down list in invincible. I can see
the rectangle outline where it is, but the words do not show at all. They are
invincible. It is the same with the other applications, Excel, PowerPoint,
etc.
Please help! How do I make the words to show.
