Default Paste Link Grayed Out

I have successfully used paste link several times before.
I now have a destination worksheet into which I was able
to paste link one value successfully. Since then, all
attempts to paste special show the paste link button
as "grayed out".
Any clues???
I spent a lot of time fomratting the destination worksheet
so I am reluctant to start over.
All suggestions will be very welcome.

The destination sheet is probably protected. Go to
Tools|Protection...Unprotect Worksheet

I don't know why the box is greyed out but what you could
do is write a formula that does the same thing.

i.e in cell A1 in the destination sheet you could write
the formula "=[1st workbook]!A1", then copy and paste
special as "formulas" this formula to where ever needed.

Paste Link greys out when you select anything else than "Paste All" & "Operation None". Are you in this case?

Steve,

Have you tried to enter the link by typing it?

1. In the destination cell type =
1'. Do not press enter or esc
2. Change to the the other workbook by using the 'window'
menu or using ctrl+tab
3. Select the cell you want to link
4. Press enter

Or type directly:
=[Filename]Sheet1!A1

Replace Filename,Sheet1 and A1 as needed

Regards,
Felipe
