Default Can't install Office 2007 SP2

I downloaded the 290 MB file to manually update Office 2007 to SP2. However,
when I run that huge file, it generates an error message saying "The
detection falied, this can be due to a corrupted installation database."

I then tried to reinstall Office 2007 from the original installation file (I
bought it online and downloaded the installation file) but that failed, too.
That error message read only "Setup did not complete successfully. We are
sorry for the inconvenience. An error occured [sic] during the installation,
and setup was unable to complete. Please tell Microsoft about the problem." I
clicked "Send Error Report" and also looked at the log file that was sent.
The last few lines of the log file read:

Error: Type: MsiOpenDatabase call failed.. MsiAPICallFailure ErrorCode:
110(0x6e).
Error: Type: MsiOpenDatabase call failed.. MsiAPICallFailure ErrorCode:

Catalyst execution finished: 05/02/2009 12:07:31. Return code: 30050.
Exception caught: MsiAPICallFailure.
PERF: TickCount=32508828 Name=RunSetup Description=End function

I am afraid to totally uninstall Office 2007, as I am afraid that I won't be
able to reinstall it once it is gone.

How can I get SP2 installed?

Have you first tried Office Diagnostics, from the dvd or any Office
component?

I ran the diagnostics from outlook help; not from the installation disc and
everything was fine. Everything else from windows auto update installed
properly except sp2 for office suite 2007. I get error code 80070666. I have
a dell XPS laptop running Vista ultimate 32 bit.

How can I get SP2 installed?

__________________________________________________ __________________

I broke down and did a manual uninstall of Office 2007. It was easy, but
tedious. Be sure to print the instructions off and make notes as you go.
Re-install worked perfectly. Make sure you have a valid office 2007 disk
because it will ask you for the license code.

Thank you. When I have the nerve and the time I may have no choice but to
bite the bullet and follow your advice: Uninstall Office 2007 and then
reinstall from the original disc. What happens to all my data? Does it
magically reappear? I regularly backup my computer but will everything in
outlook come back the same way especially if some of the original data is
corrupted?

Your data should be in non-office folders, so you won't lose it. When the
uninstall instructions say to delete a file or folder, I renamed them i.e.
"Old_Office," so I could have them back if necessary. If you do a system
backup before beginning, you can restore the old registry entries if you have
a problem.

Thanks for the information; I will attempt it when necessary. However if my
data is corrupt will reinstalling it cause the same problem in the future.
Were you able to install SP1 & SP2 both with no difficulties?
