Default can I keep outlook 2k

I just purchased Office Home and Student and before I install this I have
some questions that need answers if you can help me.

I am running win XP sp-3 and am currently using Microsoft office small
business 2000 (9.0.4402 SR-1) 1999 vintage. I would like to keep the copy of
outlook 2k that office small business 2k installed and install office home
and student 2007. is it possible? If it is what do I need to do to make it
work?

You can install Office H&S and have it upgrade your Office 2000 SBE without
issue. It will only upgrade your 2000 components that are in 2007 H&S.
IOW, it will keep Outlook.

However IIRC the connection to Outlook and Word will be broken and you will
not be able to use Word 2007 as the editor for Outlook 2K. I don't know
what would happen to the Word/Outlook connection if you left Outlook and
Word 2K installed and did a parallel install of Office 2007 into a separate
folder. I don't know if Outlook would be able to automatically use Word 2K
as it's editor. Anyone out there know?

To understand your response, if the upgrade is done and Office 2000 is
overwritten (especially Word) Word 2007 will NOT be used as the editor and
Outlook 2000 would then not have any version of Word as an editor. If the
parallel install is done and Word 2000 remains, Outlook 2000 would use the
remaining Word 2000 as its editor. Are my statements correct or incorrect?

The comma after won't threw me a curve.

No Office automation will work with mis-matched versions of Word and
Outlook - mail merges, send to, etc. That is a well known issue I did not
feel was necessary to repeat.

Milly, I actually meant to post to the OP and not you and it actually was
phrased somewhat incorrectly. What I was worried about was if he overwrote
Word 2000 with '07 and decided he wanted the editor in Outlook, it would not
be there and prompt another post to find out why. On my first post I wasn't
totally sure but I thought I was correct. You have now verified my
correctness, as had DL.
