Default "Display presence status in the from field" option won't stay sele

The "Display presence status in the from field" option in Outlook 2003 will
not stay selected. I can select it, but after I hit apply and go back into
options it shows it as not selected. It seems to work fine for my customers
co-worker in the next room. Office 2003 has all the Office updates installed.
Outlook is using MS Exchange for all the mail. The "Enable the person Names
Smart Tag" stays selected.

Any Ideas as to what is going on? What items, patches, updates, modules,
etc. does this function depend on? What all does it do except to put a bubble
next to the e-mail senders name that can be clicked on for additional
information about the sender such as their schedule/available times, etc.
(This is the feature most desired by the user)

Thanks for the help,

Ralph Malph

I had the same problem - installing SP2 for Office 2003 solved it for me.

Thanks for your reply Jim.

The SP2 update will change the wording of that option from "Display
Messenger Status in the From field" to "Display Presence Status in the From
field" but for me it has no effect on the ability to select the option and
have it remain selected. I have tried to contact Microsoft tech support for
info on this option which THEIR SP2 update changed but they will tell me
nothing about it. They expect me to pay them money to maybe get an answer. I
of course find that very offensive since it is their obligation to document
all options. I expect them to have an article for EVERY option in every piece
of software they sell that will tell me everything there is to know about it.
But as far as they are concerned the 5000 licensed/paid for installations of
Office in the organization I work for qualify me for NADA. No, in addition to
the millions of dollars the organization I work for has spent purchasing
their products, they just gota have a little more before they will tell me
how something they wrote and DID NOT document works. Yes this option is so
un-documented that even the MVP's don't seem to know anything about it. But
Microsoft say's they will be glad to help if I pay them money. Such greed
!!!!!!. Sorry I just had to get that off my chest. I have One PC that was
upgraded from Office XP to 2003, and on it the option stays selected, but on
all the other PCs I have looked at, including my own workstation, all with
SP2 installed, it does not.

Have a great day and thanks for the reply,

Ralph Malph
