Default excel 2007 problem

I am having a strange problem with excel 2007.
If open an excel sheet and then close excel the normal way everything is
fine.
If I then reopen excel again and try to close it the normal way nothing
happens.
Excel will close if I use the X in the corner.
I have done a repair install to see if that fixes my problem, but it did not
sort out the problem.
I have tried out the other programs in the office 2007 pro suite to see if
the other parts are effected. They are not.
I am at a loss. I know this is not a critical problem, but as I paid a fair
amount of money for it (High UK price) it would be nice to have it working
fine.
So if anyone could help me or point me in the right direction I would be
eternally grateful.

And the normal way would be clicking on the supersized Office button
at the top-left of the Excel application window and clicking on the
exit button?

nothing happens.

....

Does the [Alt]+[F4] key combination also close Excel when you can't
close it the 'normal way'?

There's a KnowledgeBase article about Excel not closing when there are
connections to COM add-ins. Are you using any add-ins?

In any event, you'd get better results asking this sort of question in
an Excel-specific newsgroup like microsoft.public.excel.

ALT + F4 works fine.

I have posted the same question in the excel group so hopefully I can get
this problem sorted out.

actually the 'close' means close the current document. There is another
button named 'exit' which does what it means.

try it again. it is one of these new tricks in the 2007 version,
without any clue of what it is good for...
