Default OE6 Newsreader / Cannot add New Groups

All of the sudden, I cannot add any newsgroups to my existing news servers
that I have listed. When I get the next headers for an existing group, the
message count never changes, meaning, the unread / not downloaded total
always stays the same.

Please note, I am accessing the very same news server from my ISP on another
computer and all is fine. I recently upgraded to IE7 but the issue with OE
has just happened within the past few days and seemed to work fine just
after I upgraded to IE7. Many thanks for any input.

Can I reinstall OE6 somehow?

Default OE6 Newsreader / Cannot add New Groups

This newsgroup is for support of Outlook 97, 98, 2000, 2002 & 2003 from the
Office family for Intel PCs. For Outlook Express (OE) support try posting in
one of these newsgroups:
microsoft.public.inetexplorer.ie4.outlookexpress for OE 4.x
microsoft.public.windows.inetexplorer.ie5.outlooke xpress for OE 5.x
http://support.microsoft.com/newsgro...-us;newsgroups
microsoft.public.windows.inetexplorer.ie55.outlook express for OE 5.5x
http://support.microsoft.com/newsgro...-us;newsgroups
microsoft.public.windows.inetexplorer.ie6_outlooke xpress for OE 6.x
http://support.microsoft.com/newsgro...-us;newsgroups
microsoft.public.internet.mail.mac for the Macintosh version of OE
http://support.microsoft.com/newsgro...-us;newsgroups

If those groups aren't carried on the news server that's carrying this group
try using msnews.microsoft.com (MS's public news server that's the source
for all the microsoft.public newsgroups). The links under the newsgroup
references are for use with MS's web newsreader (not exactly the best way to
post but it works for some people)

Also a good source of Outlook Express info can be found he

He *did* post it in
'microsoft.public.windows.inetexplorer.ie6_outlook express'. Well, he cross
posted it here, and two other unrelated groups. Then multi posted to
'microsoft.public.outlookexpress.general'. He should have set a
'Followup-To' flag, though.

Hi JBL,

There are some troubleshooting steps that can be taken. A reset of the news
server can be done. This will delete current headers and download new
headers. In some cases removing the account may be necessary to remove
corrupt files.

It is also possible to add another account for the same server. This will
allow you to see if the server connection and operation is okay without
taking action on the first account at this time. When creating a second
account give it a name that differs from the first account. This name will
be displayed in the accounts pane.

Example
Microsoft News with 2nd account change to Microsoft News Two

To reset the server right-click on the account name in the accounts pane and
choose reset. This can also be done from Tools | Options | Maintenance |
Clean up Now and browse to the news server account to choose Reset. This can
also be done for only one newsgroup.
