Default Accessing mail remotely fails locally

Able to send/receive after logging on remotely but getting errors while
working on OE 6 on Win 2000 Pro locally -
There was a problem logging onto your mail server. Your Password was
rejected. Account: info, Server: info,
Protocol: POP3, Server Response: '-ERR invalid user name or password.',
Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 0x800CCC90, Error Number:
0x800CCC92

Hi William,

It isn't easy to pinpoint the cause of the problem. A common cause of
connection issues involves the filtering of messages for spam or the use of
anti-virus message scan. Disable any message scan that may be in use.
Anti-virus system scan will still protect a PC. Double check account
configuration entries for accuracy -- these can be changed by message scan
to allow for a proxy connection.

It is also possible to have a bad connection to the Internet, or be in
offline mode. In some cases restarting the PC and then reconnecting to the
Internet will reestablish a good connection.

More possibilities are provided in the Microsoft Knowledge Base. Search for
one or both of the error numbers. The following link is for searching the
entire KB. It is also possible to narrow the search by searching by product.
You may recognize an issue that pertains to your situation.

Default Accessing mail remotely fails locally

The Invalid password error message can mean that any of the following
are wrong:
- POP3 server name
- Incoming Mail Server Account Name (some require the full e-mail
address , others just want the user part)
- Incoming Mail Server Password (often case sensitive)
- Incorrect use of Secure Password Authentication (SPA) - few severs
use this
- Incorrect use of SSL - few servers use this
- The mail server is having temporary problems
- Anti-Virus scanning e-mail or anti-spam program interfering with the
mail server logon
Check these settings in Outlook Express at Tools, Accounts, Mail,
Properties, Servers (Advanced tab for SSL). Check with your mail
service (generally your ISP) for the correct values. If the values seem
correct, retype them and click APPLY. In the event that the account
settings are corrupted in the registry, it might be necessary to delete
the mail account, restart OE and then set up the account again. In some
cases it might be necessary to set up a new identity in OE and create
the mail account there.
