Default importing mail folders

I upgraded my computer with a new HDD and Win XP Pro. my
old HDD with Win Me is now the slave. How can I bring
over all my old emails and account settings from my
previous OE 6 to my new OE 6 on the new drive? Can I just
drag my old identities folder over to Win XP on the new
drive? Where would I do it? I can't find the identities
folder in XP. Trying the import feature I see one at
DocumentsandSettings\rich\localsettings\applicatio nData\id
entities. Yet when I try to find it under the Doc and
settings folder I can't find the local settings and other
folders. Please help. I do not want to lose access to
these emails.

thanks

Default importing mail folders

File | Import | Messages | Microsoft Outlook Express 6 | Import mail from an
OE6 store directory | Browse button then navigate to the folder on the old
drive where the dbx files for OE are located. Select it, then finish up the
import.

You may have to make the files visible
Open Windows Explorer | Tools | Folder Options | Views tab
select "Show all files"
uncheck "hide file extensions for known file types"
click Apply then OK

You can view the current location by Tools |Options | Maintenance tab |
Store Folders button.

No and no.

Import, not drag, the DBX files.

Default importing mail folders

I tried importing one dbx file, but got the following
error:

"No messages found in this folder or another appl. is
running that has the required files open. Please select
another folder or try closing other applications that may
have files open."

I have no other appl. open, and the dbx file is not read-
only selected.

Can you help me?

Don

You need the file called "Folders.dbx" in the same folder as the file you
are trying to import. If you haven't got that file, there is a workaround.
Open OE and create a new folder with EXACTLY the same name as the one you
are trying to import. Open it but DO NOT PUT ANYTHING IN IT. Close OE. Then
copy the folder you are trying to import into your message store. When asked
"Do you want to replace folder etc etc say Yes. Open OE and your folder
should be there with its contents.

Default importing mail folders

I wrote *files* (with an 's'): Import the whole shebang, including
Folders.dbx.

To import a single DBX file is a tad trickier:

http://insideoe.tomsterdam.com/faqs/how.htm#importdbx, or

http://www.oehelp.com/backup.aspx (last paragraph)
