Default Unstable fonts

My fonts are become unstable in Publisher. I believe manly those that I
downloaded from the internet. Sometimes I’m not able to use them at all even
though, they are still appearing installed. Or I just able to change part of
the text and if I add more to it the whole text changes back to the previous
font.
In Word I do not have any problems with my downloaded fonts.

Any idea what’s happening and what could be the solution?

I appreciate your help.

There are some fonts that you can download that do not include the whole
alphabet unless you pay for it.

Default Unstable fonts

Hi, I think thats exactly the same problem I have, which I discussed
9-10.4.2006 under header "Not able to use all fonts :'("

JoAnn, if you think that this is because the font does not include whole
alphabet I would then 1) this is silly, Publisher should use the font
symbols it has and if the font hasn't some chars, it should display general
character or display only these characters in default font, not deny whole
font without any reason - 2) ask, what is the minimum the font has to have
to be usable in Publisher? 3) why all other Office applications works do not
have any problems with the font?

Vanilla, my discussion unfortunately ended without solution, I promised I
would send some font example - however I didn't have and don't have much
time nowadays, so if you could send some sample it would probably help to
others see whats going go.
Yes and a tip for you, if it is not whole book but only a heading or
someting like that, you can use Insert | Symbol to write with your font
char-by-char.

This is really pain.

Default Unstable fonts

Hi JoAn & Jan
Thanks for responding to my thread.

Those fonts--I am talking about--are freeware, completely free. They worked
previously and they might work again next time when I want to use them. What
makes it frustrating is that one day there is no problem at all using them,
but maybe the next day none of those fonts are ‘willing to work’ for you.
You just don’t know what's going to happen expect.
Plus there are no problems at all with Word documents; which makes me think
that there is something about Publisher which makes them ‘act’ the way they
do.

Some of the fonts are came fron TypeOasis.

Hi Vanilla.
Yes I think this is Publisher-only problem, but I don't have troubles that
it works some day and some no... it just don't work me all the time. Maybe
it works when you don't use the characters which are missing/wrong mapped -
maybe.

I'm afraid I can't help you but it's quite fine finding that I'm not alone
with such problem.

TweakUI has a font folder repair utility that may help.
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/d...powertoys.mspx

I know fonts can be pricey, but they are well worth the price if you are
concerned about the integrity of your publications.

I don't want to be annoying, but why all of you are thinking it is because
of baddish fonts? If admit and ask what the font must have - nobody answers.
If I create my own fonts professionally, what should I do to make them work
not only in Word but also in Publisher?
Don't forget we are talking about fonts like Georgia and so on as well.

If you are having problems with your fonts generally, then it is a Windows
issure, not a Publisher problem. Use the PowerToy, see if it helps. Do you have
the Windows service packs?

JoAnn (or anyone else who can help)- I'm new to this group thing and cannot
figure out how to start a new question. I'm able to "reply" - so here goes,
with my apologies to the creator of this particular post.

I have an 11-page newsletter, created in Publisher 2003. I need to send
various pages to either my client or proofreaders, etc. The pages I need to
send often vary from person to person. I'd like to create separate docs for
each page, as well as keep a file containing the entire newsletter (I don't
have a pdf writer). How can I create a separate pub. document for each,
individual page? Thanks!

The best way to create .pdf files of the pages you want to send to the
various people. Go to www.primopdf.com and download PrimoPDf. It's free and
will allow you to create the files you need. *Believe me*, as a newsletter
editor you NEED something that will let you do that.
