Default "eReference Embedding - unknown application version"

I installed Microsoft Office 2003. Since then whenever I open either Word or
Excel I get the following error: "eReference Embedding - unknown application
version"

The error is related to having installed previously the American Heritage
Dictionary 4th edition that has an add-in for office applications. I
installed the patch for office offered by Houghton Mifflin Company but the
error continues. They do not provide support for the problem. Therefore I
unintalled the dictionary but the error continues!

Any suggestion?

It sounds like you didn't get it fully uninstalled and you'll need to
find the add-in.

In Word take a look under Tools/Templates and Add-ins and see if their
add-in is listed. If so you'll find it either in the Word Startup
folder or the Office\Startup folder. The location of the Word folder
can be found by going to Tools/Options/File Locations. The
Office\Startup folder can be found in the Office installation path.
You can also use Windows Search to locate the file.

You should find a similar file in the XLStart folder.

If that isn't it then chances are it is a COM add-in. To check for COM
Add-ins in Word use the following steps:

- Right-click any toolbar and select Customize
- On the Commands tab, select the Tools category
- Locate COM Add-Ins on the right
- Drag/Drop to a location of your choice

For more information on COM Add-Ins, see this article:
http://www.mvps.org/word/FAQs/Custom...sInstalled.htm

For Excel go to Tools/Add-ins.

Please post all follow-up questions to the newsgroup. Requests for
assistance by email can not be acknowledged.

Beth,

Thanks for taking the time to reply. In the meantime, I search the registry
for "ereference" and found the following: ereference.comaddin (or something
like that) in the registry in something that was related to the start of
word, excel and powerpoint.

I removed those entries and the problem was solved.
