Default Two shapes seem to repel each other

A Visio 2003 diagram contains 2 rectangle shapes that cannot be
superimposed. When I move one shape toward the other, the other shape moves
away. Can someone tell me what causes this irritating behavior, and what
shape properties or application options I can change to correct it?

Thanks,

Keith

I am using Visio 2002, but maybe this will still work in Visio 2003.

Right click on the shape and go to "Format" then "Behavior...". Under the "Placement" tab, there are a couple of things that might cause that problem, but I think it is probably a drop box that says something like "plow every shape." When that is selected, if you move the shape so it overlaps a second shape, the second shape moves out of the way, but the second shape can still be placed over the first shape. You probably want to change it to "plow no shapes," or maybe "plow as page specifies" unless that's what it says now.

If those options don't exist in Visio 2003, maybe you can open the help files and search for "plow" since the option might be someplace else.

Hope that helps,
Elizabeth
