Using styles (Heading 1, etc) in Word (any version) allows me to create
a TOC very simply.

I cannot find a way to create a table of content automatically in
Publisher (2003), for instance by applying styles.
Am I missing something or have they just left out this option?

Don't want to create a TOC manually in a 200 page document....

TIA - Rob

The bad news is you will have to create the TOC manually. Publisher is a page layout
application. Word is better suited for what you are doing.

That _really_ is bad news because we swapped to Publisher because page
layout is easier to accomplish. Hmmm...

Maybe we should opt for InDesign???

Thanks anyway for your response - Rob

Rob,

A cheaper alternative would be Serif PagePlus. It is much like Pub as
far as tools go (though it does create a pdf without the need for a
third-party program) and it does a TOC as well as an Index.

Mike,

what about footnotes? Can't find these either in Pub. Does Serif PP have
footnotes?

Rob, if you choose Edit Edit Story in Word to create Footnotes and TOC's
for Publisher publications.

Unless you have more than one story in your publication...

Brian,

my attempts to create a footnote fail. I type text in Publisher, select
the text box, point to Edit Edit Story in Word and add a footnote.
After that (in Word) File Close & Return to Publication.

And then...the footnote has disappeared. Can't make it work in Pub 2002
nor 2003.
