Default Clear the "Recent Files" list in the hyperlink window

When I right click to hyperlink a word either in PowerPoint or MS Word, the hyperlink window shows a box that reads "Recent Files." When I click the "Recent Files" box, it shows all the files that I have recently accessed. How do I clear that box so that I will show nothing?

I'm not sure that I understand. If you want to see nothing, what good is the
"Recent Files" icon to you and why do you click on it if you want to see
nothing? Just don't select it. There must be something else to the question.
Can you tell us more?

I assume he means clear as in "start over," not that he wants it always
to be clear, but just to develop a new list of recent files that don't
include some of the less recent files.

More to the story. When I am showing my students (8th grade) how to use PowerPoint, I am actually conducting the class using PowerPoint, showing them the steps on the big screen. I have all my students' academic and discipline files that I have recently accessed on that computer. When I get to that point and click the "Recent Files" button, my students see their names on the "Recent Files" list and I get a plethora of questions about why their names are there. Just wanted to know if there was a way to clear that list.

Have you tried clicking on Tools | Options | General | remove the checkmark
beside "Recently used file list". If after you have shown your students, and
before shutting down PowerPoint you repeat the steps, and put back the
checkmark, your list will reappear. Is this what you looking for?

Mike,
A bit of a hassle, but to really lose them alltogether : in the registry:
Hkey_Current_user - Software - Microsoft - Office 10/11 - Powerpoint -
Recent files list - double click File 1 - 9 delete and click OK.
Not something to do every day but once in a while maybe.

I've tried the Tools - Options - General procedure, but that only removes recent files from the "file" key (top left). It does not remove "Recent Files" from the hyperlink window.

Thanks, Mike. That makes perfect sense. However, I tried Luc's method and it
didn't work for me. There must be some other stashed list that I can't find in
the Registry. My Recent Files list has 46 files listed, which seems to be
everything I've ever opened in an Office application since I recently
reformatted. That includes Access, Excel, Word, and FrontPage.

If it doesn't work for you, you might try opening about twelve innocuous files
in PowerPoint to force the list to only display them in the first portion of the
list. The student related files will still be in the list, but they won't be
seen unless you scroll down the list.

Clearing your MSIE history seems to clear recent links; I thought that perhaps
by the same token clearing the start menu's list of recently opened documents
would do the same for the file list in PPT, but it doesn't seem to.

You might try noting the names of some of the files on the list, then doing a
full text search on the HDD to see where the filenames turn up.
