Headers and Footers have conflict due to page/section breaks
Using Word 2002, a book document needs a Chapter name and number header
changed for each chapter, which requires section breaks between chapters. Footers need a Copyright notice and sequential page numbers throughout the whole document. Whichever one I set up works fine, because of the appropriate breaks. However, the other then malfunctions because it needs different breaks. I was advised by several people to fix it by using the format page number window, but this did not work for me as I was still getting backwards pagination and other anomalies. I was also told I didn't need an upgrade version. If someone can help, thanks. . copyrignt notice plus sequential page numbers throughout whole book. The footers requires page breaks instead of section breaks. If I do one of the above, it works fine, but the other mis functions. Iwas told to use the page format screen, at every chapter beginning, but it does not help. Is this conflict a 2002 idiosyncrasy, or am I missing something? jinni308@ |

Headers and Footers have conflict due to page/section breaks
You can use a StyleRef field to pick up the chapter name and number (see
http://sbarnhill.mvps.org/WordFAQs/StyleRef.htm), but you may still want section breaks between chapters if you want to omit a header on the first page of the chapter). Headers and footers are completely independent of each other. You can have footers linked and headers unlinked (or any combination of specific headers/footers linked/unlinked). For more on how this works, see http://sbarnhill.mvps.org/WordFAQs/HeaderFooter.htm. If, however, you're saying you need continuous page numbers in the footer and pagination by chapter in the header, then this is a different problem. -- Suzanne S.
