Default Using Hyperlinks

Try looking up the articles in the help file on Hyperlink.

This is the information provided by one of them:

{ HYPERLINK "Filename" [Switches ] }
A hyperlink (hyperlink: Colored and underlined text or a graphic that you
click to go to a file, a location in a file, a Web page on the World Wide
Web, or a Web page on an intranet. Hyperlinks can also go to newsgroups and
to Gopher, Telnet, and FTP sites.) is a "hot spot" that allows you to jump
to another location. The location can include another file on your hard disk
or company's network (such as a Microsoft Word document or a Microsoft Excel
worksheet), an Internet address (such as http://www.microsoft.com), or a
location such as a bookmark (bookmark: A location or selection of text in a
file that you name for reference purposes. Bookmarks identify a location
within your file that you can later refer or link to.) or slide. The field
includes display text, which is often blue and underlined, that the user
clicks to jump to the specified location. You can insert hyperlinks by
clicking the Hyperlink command on the Insert menu.

Doug has cited the relevant Help text, but I can understand your
bewilderment if you produce only printed documents (as I do). There is *no*
use for hyperlinks in printed documents, only in documents that will be
viewed online (on someone's computer or on the Internet or an intranet). In
these electronic applications, they allow you to jump to another place in
the document, to another document, to a Web site, etc.
