This is usually caused by scanning e-mail, or an anti-spam program.

Turn off e-mail scanning in your anti-virus program. It is a redundant layer
of protection that eats up CPUs and causes a multitude of problems such as
time-outs and account setting changes. Your up-to-date A/V program will
continue to protect you sufficiently. For more, see:

It's a hotmail server problem. The hotmail server system will no longer
excepts the initial SYN flag form any of 3 OS's here on 5 computers with or
without an AV layer running. I've seen many complaints of this same problem
recently but I've seen no explanation for this changed response behavior
from hotmail's server system. The workaround is to either just hit send/recv
again or highlight a different OE folder then re-highlight the target
hotmail folder. The client will then poll the target hotmail account... but
it will only keep allowing the client to poll the account for 5 minutes or
so if no exchange has occurred. I'd be very interested to know why
hotmail/msn has done this

Ah, yeah, different problem altogether. I just quickly glanced at the error
of 800ccc0f and mistook it for 800ccc3f and stupidly failed to read the post
very closely. My bad :-\ Thanks for pointing out my blunder.

I'm still quite curious about the http polling issue though.

They are using a POP3 account, not a Hotmail account
