Default Outlook 2003 unstable in Windows 7 x64

Well...nothing definitive....
I ran , and run Scanpst until no errors.
Ran for a few days in safe mode - wher it seems to be a little more stable
but still crashes sometimes.

Generaally I am back to running in regular mode and sufferring the crashes.
After most crashes the scanpst finds errors. Often the scanpst itself
freezes after pressing BACKUP and YES to replace previous Backup file.. WHen
restarting SCAN PST immediately after it crashes / freezes it says no errors
were found.

I am so desperate I am considering buying 2007 with included update to 2010
in the hope that this will solve the problem

Run scanpst.exe a couple more times against any of your pst-files until it
doesn't pop-up any errors anymore.
Then start Outlook in Safe Mode and work with Outlook like that for a day
and see if still crashes. This will give more insights in the scope of your
issue.

To start Outlook in Safe Mode use;
Start- type; outlook.exe /safe
(note the space in the command)

I was finishing an e-mail and double clicked on the attached file to check
it was good beofre sending. The associated app opened but Outlook stopped
working and restarted. After restart I retraced my exact steps and
nothing -
worked fine.

Yes all Office updates installed.

How frequently are you checking for new mail? Are all 4 accounts on the
same
server? If so, split them into 2 send/receive groups and do not check
mail
more often than every 8 - 10 minutes.

Do you have all updates installed for office?

Have about 4 - all pop3 - all linked to external - internet server
based
ISPs

No pattern except that it allways seems to happen when I am movbing
fast -
multi tasking - have other software running, Outlook task running clock
timer
running - composing an email and go to hit he save button or open
another
email to retrieve some datad and bang - crash. "MS Outlook has stopped
working...." (It may be that it is send retrieving in the background -
have
not noticed.

I have just raun SCANPST (which also hung the first time I tried to run
it..) It found errors in the OUTLOOK.PST file and repaired them. Do I
need
to
run it on the archived files as well?

Event Viewr. Mostly Application Error - Event ID 1000 Task Category

and:
Faulting application name: OUTLOOK.EXE, version: 11.0.8312.0, time

Faulting application path: C:\PROGRA~2\MICROS~1\OFFICE11\OUTLOOK.EXE
Faulting module path: C:\PROGRA~2\MICROS~1\OFFICE11\OUTLLIB.dll

But sometimes I can see:
Application Hang 1002 (101) and:

The program OUTLOOK.EXE version 11.0.8312.0 stopped interacting with
Windows
and was closed. To see if more information about the problem is
available,
check the problem history in the Action Center control panel.

Thanks for your help,

This is really driving me crazy

Which email account(s) do you use?
Can you find a pattern in when it crashes?
For instance; it always crashes during a send/receive interval

Have you checked your pst-file for errors already with scanpst.exe?
See http://www.msoutlook.info/question/77

What is being logged to the Event Viewer about these crashes?
See http://www.msoutlook.info/question/317

I installed Office 2003 on brand new Windows 7 x64 a few eeks ago.
No problems installing, no problems transferring all data from old
system,
never any problem opening Outlook, or any other office apps.
Everything (Windows, Office ) at the latest update SP and release.
Outlook regulary stops working, and restarts. Quite often when
starting
a
new email.
I have removed all add ins.
Often Outlook will also not close - when using the "X" at the top
Right
hand
corner. When this happens it can only be closed using file exit.
Never ever had any of these issues when running on XP
