I think it's to confuse people who, for whatever reason, don't think

belong or are to be found where Microsoft thinks they ought to be.

goodness for the quick-icon bar, even if they are awfully small icons)

Also to take up more room on the screen, leaving ever less for actual
work.

Oh, and let's not forget the potential sales of all the new how-to
books for the totally-lost&confused among us!

I'm convinced the best thing about Publisher 2007 was it is the same as
2003 and didn't include the ribbon, it's the only part of the 2007 suite
I haven't removed from my machine and then only to gain access to the
pdf add-in.
It's a great pity there was no extra functionality introduced. I could
sure use a Table of Contents and Index, also the ability to import its
native files is surely a must! Is any of that in 2010?
