Read only in MS word?
Hi guys,
Have a web site that allows ppl to read word docs. When the user opens a document and changes (by mistake) word asks them whether to save the changes. I need to supress this message box and just let the changes go (like a reader). I am using IE6.01 and Office XP (docs are opening in the plugin for internet explorer). Is there a reg setting? There really is no feature to do what you want. You could try protecting the
documents for forms -- even without any formfields. A document protected for forms without any formfields does not allow any changes. This is not secure; it is relatively easy to get around but the person doing so does have to be trying to do so. This is what Word calls an "online form." Check this in help. For more about online forms, follow the links at http://addbalance.com/word/wordwebresources.htm#Forms or http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/Customizat...nTheBlanks.htm especially Dian Chapman's series of articles.
