Somehow I have inadvertantly changed a setting or something in Power Point so
that text I have entered in text boxes and titles is compressed and some
charaters appear to be overlaying others. I don't know what I did and I
can't undo whatever it was.

I'm wondering if you have the "local printer driver" problem. Do you
have a local printer installed as your default. Check out:

formatting problems, print, crash problems

Hello,
If you are using PPT 2007 or later.

On the Home tab, locate the Font group and click on the little arrow at the
bottom right of it. (Hint: when you however over it, it will show a tooltip
for the Font dialog box). On that dialog, check the Character spacing tab,
is the spacing Compressed? You can change it to Normal .

If this issue is presentation then chances are this setting was set in the
Slide master slides.
