Default Problems importing/recovering old PST

I did not overwrite an existing pst. I renamed the one that was in the
directory I have mentioned and then copied in the original one with its
original name, outlook.pst.
Control panel applet has the filename and location correct.

It is definitely the correct pst.

The modification date is correct on the pst. It was the date last used about
3 weeks ago. In my earlier posts, I was looking at the wrong pst files.

Thanks for your help!

I do not see a send folder in outlook, I do not see a folder by the name xxx
which is where mail it put that contains xxx in the header. Also if I open a
new mail, it no longer contains my sig (this is a minor point, I really just
want my mail back).

"DL" wrote:

In Control panelMail applet set your current data file as default

If a folder is missing either it has been inadvertantly moved, within
Outlook, by you, (I assume you are looking at folders tree view) or you have
copied the wrong pst

The modification date of your origonal pst should be that of the last time
you successfully opened Outlook in its origonal state

OK, so I copied my outlook.pst file from original drive to c:\documents
and
settings\user\local settings\application data\microsoft\outlook and then
opened outlook.
I received the following prompt (paraphrased):
Location that messages are delivered to has changed for this user profile.
You may need to copy the contents of the old outlook folders to the new
oultlook folders.
...
Some shortcuts in the outlook bar may no longer work. Do you want outlook
to recreate? I chose no.
Now My important emails that were put in its own folder (by an outlook

are no longer there and the folder is not there. How do I get this

Default Problems importing/recovering old PST

Now items missing a

sent folder

xyz folder where I put all my email with xyz in the header (this is really
the gold I am after)

also sig file does not show up when I write an email...this is just a clue,
I can easily fix this.

Any ideas of an approach?

I am thinking of

1 trying microsoft tool to fix corrupt pst files

2 or uninstall reinstall office and then move the .pst again and this time
when it opens for first time to answer YES to the question do you want
outlook to recreate shortcuts in outlook bar

Thanks

Default Problems importing/recovering old PST

Why did you not read what DL so clearly posted, "copy to Documents folder
and not the default outlook location,
which may overwrite an existing pst, thereby corrupting the Profile."
As far as your Outlook profile is concerned, you overwrote its file. You
never rename Outlook data files in Windows Explorer. You never copy Outlook
files to the default location.
Start over with a new profile and follow the directions that have been
posted to connect it to a good copy of your Outlook data file.

Default Problems importing/recovering old PST

Every OS has a folder named Documents or My Documents.
Where you put the PST file is not important. Put it anywhere you want except
Outlook's default location.
Renaming a PST file in Windows Explorer has never been supported. It
corrupts the connection to the Outlook profile but fails to disconnect it
completely, leaving you with a corrupt profile that cannot be repair. Go
ahead and keep doing it if you see no harm.

.pst
file.

Are my approaches incorrect? I really need to get this pst
file
back
as
it
has a 5 year history of content that I need. How should I
proceed?

Another strange thing is that the modifcation date on the
pst
file
is
years
older than expected. I would have expected it to have the
last
date
that
I
opened mail. Is that an incorrect assumption?

Thanks!
