You can choose to see file extensions in Word's Open and Save dialog and in
Windows Explorer windows. In Windows Explorer, choose Tools | Folder Options. On the View tab, clear the check box for "Hide file extensions for known file types." -- Suzanne S. Word will always recognize its own files no matter what the extension, but
unless there is a very good reason to change it (and I can't think of one) then it is not a good idea to change the default setting. -- Graham Mayor - Word MVP My web site www.gmayor.com Word MVP web site http://word.mvps.org Steve Hayes wrote: On Tue, 3 Aug 2004 22:41:57 -0400, "Doug Robbins" wrote: doc is the default file extension for a Word document. Correction: Word will always recognize its own files provided you are
opening them through Word's File Open dialog. But Windows will not automatically use Word to open them unless you associate your file extension with Word (which you can do), and they will not be displayed in Word's File Open dialog unless you display All Files. -- Suzanne S.
