trying to activate outlook 2003.

Do you expect to be able to connect to an Exchange server? If not, remove
the Exchange account from the mail profile in Control Panel's Mail applet.

thanks, that worked. now how do i activate outlook and connect to an exchange
server?

Do you have one with which to connect? Are you in an business environment?
If so, ask your IT people for the correct settings.

no business inv. i am on a home syatem with outlook express installed through
my isp.

Then you don't have an Exchange server and can't use an Exchange account.
