To change the default font size (this will also change the settings for
tooltips in Excel and other programs):

Right-click on the desktop, and choose Properties
On the Appearance tab, click Advanced.
From the Item dropdown, choose Tooltip
Choose a font Size, click OK, click OK
(Note: selecting a font type here will not affect the default font used
in Excel's comments)

To insert a comment with a specific font, you can use a macro:

Thank you for the macro. That may be the route I have to
take. But first I would like to know if there is any way
to change the default setting for the font for "Insert
Comment". If it's set to Tahoma 8 pt. right now
shouldn't there be a way to make the default be 10 pt.?

Tim

Did you try Debra's instructions for changing via
PropertiesAppearanceAdvancedItemToolTip?

Change to 10 pt. size here will be default size for Excel Comments.

Ah-ha.....thank you. I was thrown off by the note that this would "not"
change the comment font. I should have tried anyway. thanks again

In the Desktop properties, you can select a Font and Font Size for
Tooltips.
The default Font Size of a new Excel comment is affected by these
settings, but the default comment Font will remain as Tahoma.
