Email send problems with DSL & Outlook

I work from home and connect to my company network via DSL. I use Outlook as
my email client but am having problems sending email when connecting via DSL.

When I try to send I get a reply email saying "Remote could not submit the
message at the serverNetwork problems are preventing connection to the
Microsoft Exchange Server computer".

I have no problems receiving email over the DSL connection.

To send mail, I have to log off DSL and connect via dial-up (GRIC). No
problem sending email this way.

If the email is very small in size (i.e. almost no text) then sometimes it
will go out on the DSL connection.

Any ideas???

It sounds like your DSL provider is blocking Port 25 activity (are you on
either Cox or SBC?)

To test if they are blocking Port 25:
Start Run CMD OK (if CMD doesn't work, then use the word COMMAND ...
not case senstive)
At the command promt, type: ping smtp-server and hit enter
- This should result in four replies from that server, as well as Ping
statistics
After the Ping test, type: telnet smtp-server 25 and hit enter
(this will test the ability to communicate with Port 25)
- Initially, the window will show a "Connecting to smtp-server ...",
then after a few seconds, should return a longer error message which ends with
"Connect Failed"
These two steps show:
1. Ping: smtp-server is active (good ping returns)
2. Telnet: ISP is blocking Port 25 activity (if "Connect Failed" is reported)

If they are blocking Port 25, you will need to contact your ISP and find our
what SMTP server to use.

I have the same problem, but only if the textbox of the mail is not empty.
I can send mails only with a subject or with a subject and attachments.
It has nothing to do with port 25.
Is it an outlook or exchange or dsl problem ?
I am using XP and outlook2000 on the VPN-client and exchange2000 server.

Any ideas ?
