Word 2k TOC
We are working on a very large document, over 750 pages
and need to set it up as a master/sub so we can generate a TOC, the right way. Right now each Chapter is in its own file. There are 11 Chapters, 8 of them are less that 2000 kb, one chapter is 26,534 kb, one is 46,089 kb and the last one is 89,766 kb. These files were never set up as master/sub because neither Dennis or I have had much luck with master/sub. In the past we have done some creative cutting and pasting to get a TOC for this document, but we know that is not the right way. The biggest problem we have with master/sub is that when the TOC is generated the chapter numbers do not show up on the TOC sometimes. Also, sometimes after we expand the master document when we would go back to the individual chapter the page numbers would be all messed. |

See http://www.word.mvps.org/faqs/genera...ocsCorrupt.htm on why
Master documents is probably the 'wrong' way. If you do decide to use it, do it at the end to make the TOC and use throwaway copies of the individual documents. To generate a TOC 'the right way' from several separate files you need to use RD fields. See the Word Help on the field code. -- Margaret Aldis - Microsoft Word MVP Syntagma partnership site: http://www.syntagma.co.uk Word MVP FAQ site: http://www.word.mvps.org wrote in message ...
