Outlook is hogging my processor
Hi DL
Spoke too soon, as usual. When I reconnected my original outlook files, the whole problem started again. So.... I uninstalled and reinstalled Outlook and hey presto, everything works OK! Hi
I have just had the same problem with Outlook and tracked it down to a McAfee Spamkiller Add-in. When I disabled this the problem went away. Outlook is hogging my processor
I am having the save problem also. I have a new dell Inspiron 9400 and am
using a pst file from an older computer. (I find it strange that Don also has a Dell)...I have check all the addins and removed or disabled them including the 4 itunes addins, but that is a different story. I am still having the same problems. How do you fix this!! "Errol" wrote: Hi I have just had the same problem with Outlook and tracked it down to a McAfee Spamkiller Add-in. I too have just bought a 'Dell' (XPS 1710) and am having exaclty the same

I have tried everything that I can think of. My next step will be to

Outlook is hogging my processor
Hi,
There is another thread in this same "general" list with the same problem. The title is "Outlook hangs...". A number of us have the same problem, all with Dells. The sent me and one other person a replacement unit (new HW to fix a SW problem) but mine is having the same problem. Dell gave me a $40 credit and told me to call 1-800-microsoft. Lots of help. I get the problem on a brand new replacement machine, nothing installed, not even WIndows update. All I have to do to recreate the problem is load my Contacts (from a ..CSV file) from my old outlook system. I have about 470 contacts. As soon as I do this, CPU usage oscillates about ever 7 seconds from 0ish to 70%. If I delete half the contacts, the oscillation period is the same but the top is 40% or so. If I read in the contacts file again (and accept duplicates, usage oscillates from 40 to 90. This is a strange one. I've tried removing the outcmd.old, starting in safe mode, reinstalling Office. THis is very repeatable and rather ugly and it appears a number of us are suffering from this. Does anyone from Microsoft read these posts? Thanks, Steve "vinny" wrote: I have tried everything that I can think of. My next step will be to reformat my hard drive and reload all of my softwear from scracth without the Dell crap. All I have to do to recreate the problem is load my Contacts (from a .CSV file) from my oldoutlooksystem. I have about 470 contacts. As soon as I do this,CPUusageoscillates about ever 7 seconds from 0ish to 70%. If I delete half the contacts, the oscillation period is the same but the top is 40% or so. If I read in the contacts file again (and accept duplicates, usageoscillates from 40 to 90. I will let you know if that works. "Telb" wrote: I too have just bought a 'Dell' (XPS 1710) and am having exaclty the same problem. Outlook2003 is hogging the processor up to 60%every6-9 seconds. Seems a theme is developing here, does anyone have any answers to solve it? "Errol" wrote: Hi I have just had the same problem withOutlookand tracked it down to a McAfee Spamkiller Add-in. When I disabled this the problem went away. It's a pity the anti-virus guys can't just concentrate on anti-virus and do that properly rather than trying to get into everything else badly. I uninstalled and reinstalledOutlook and hey presto, everything works OK! Problem solved, if not understood! Thanks again for your interest and help. DON "DL" wrote: Within OL, open your old pst. I tried a test profile with no e-mail - that was good. Now I've just added in my current e-mail and so far so good. Think you've identified the if in doubt reinstall route correctly?? Still have to get my contacts back in there plus a rather large e-mail pst file and archive but think this is the way to either cure it or at least track down the exact thing that's causing it to go AWOL. I'll let you know the final outcome tomorrow, when I get a little more time. THANKS again DON "DL" wrote: Ok go the whole hog; With OL closed, use mail applet in the control panel to create a new profile, set it to prompt for profile, create/add a new data file, do not add the origonal. Didn't know about Safe Mode and not sure what it does but unfortunately it doesn't appear to have any impact on the processor useage (BTW, the interval between peaks ofCPUuseage of ~60% is precisely 9 seconds - my earlier estimate of 4-5 was incorrect). Still puzzled DON "DL" wrote: Try opening/running OL with the safe switch ( double click OL icon whilst holding down Cntrl Key) "Don" wrote in message ... Had a few from McAfee - viruscan, spamkiller and spamkiller extension & Google. But even when I disabled all of them, no effect onCPU useage. Been having a few crashes on closingoutlookas well. Weird?! "DL" wrote: Yes thats it, but apparently not relevent in your case. Any third party addins in OL? "Don" wrote in message ... Thanks for the input DL The automatic send/receive is set at 15 minutes, if this is what you mean by polling interval? "DL" wrote: You set a polling interval for not less than 10 mins? "Don" wrote in message ... I installedOutlook2003 on an Dell 6400/intel centrino duo with XP and I noticed that the performance slows to a snails paceevery few seconds. When I ran the Performance monitor theCPUusageis peaking every4 or 5 seconds at ~50% and stayinghighfor ~60% of the time, then dipping almost to zero before increasing all over again. So no wonder everything slows down. When I quit out ofOutlook, theCPUuseage pretty much flatlines and performance returns to normal. I've tried coming off broadband but symptoms remain same. Ideas & suggestions welcome! THANKS- Hide quoted text - - Show quoted text - I have encountered the same issue with my dell. I have finally noticed in "add remove programs" that a software called "outlook addins" was installed. I have uninstalled it and it solved the issue. Regards. |
