Default size limit for PST files?

Note: You can set the UNICODE limits beyond the values that are listed in
the table. However, we (Microsoft) do not recommend doing this because
performance can decrease.

Question: Roughly every 9 months I will exceed the default 20GB limit for
Outlook 2003 .pst files. If I archive my .pst file, will I get a fresh 20GB
file? If not, what should I do?

Archive files are only a pst with another name, they therefore have the std.
pst size limitations.
Likely you would have to alter your archive settings on a regular basis to
point to a new archive pst

After archiving you might want to compact your pst

If I changed the default setting from 20 to maybe 60GB, and all other things
like memory, CPU, remained the same, roughly how much of a performance hit
might I expect. Brian Tillman, in responding to a question about size
limits, indicated that Outlook 2003 pst files could be as large as 33TB! Am
I correct in thinking that a 40GB increase is no big deal?

Any increase in the size of the .pst file will cause a performance hit,
depending on your machine's configuration. It takes a lot longer to open
and/or search through a 40 gig file than a 2 gig file.
