Default Header/Footer insert into 2007 corporate template

I am attempting to insert a header/footer into a design template I downloaded
from my corporate site. I have attempted in normal and in slide master view
with no success either way. I have tried moving objects around to ensure it
is not hidden under something. The preview doesn't even show up under the
"insert header" pop-up window. I have tried this in a ppt default template
and the header works fine. This only happens in my corporate template.

Other than a workaround of inserting a text box, is there any way to fix
this? Also, why is this happening?

I am having a hard time understanding what exactly you've attempted, but
maybe this will help you get started.

Assuming you are using PPT 2007, go to View | Slide Master.

On the slide master (the big thumbnail), do you have placeholders for date,
slide number and footer? That's the first thing.

If so, then check the individual slide layouts (the small thumbnails). Do
those all have placeholders for date, slide number and footer?

Yes, it is 2007.

I tried what you suggested and no, I do not see the header/footer
placeholders in the Slide Master View.

Also, what I meant in my first post was that I had tried to add a footer in
Normal View as well as in Slide Master View (by going to Insert | Header &
Footer).

Please also remember that this is a custom theme created by someone in my
corporation meant to be reapplied.

What is the next troubleshooting step?

Thanks!

Hm. I hope the template developer didn't just delete the footer
placeholders. Is the template PPT/POT format, or is it PPTX/POTX?

If you go to View | Slide Master and look at the first, big, slide thumbnail
(that's the Slide Master), are there placeholder for the slide number, the
date, and the footer?

If so, then check on each slide layout (the small thumbnails underneath the
big slide master thumbnail) for the footer placeholders.

If not (and it sounds like not), then up on the big Slide Master thumbnail,
click Master Layout on the Home tab of the Ribbon and select those slide
number, date and footer placeholders to add them back. Then re-check the
slide layouts to make sure these placeholder show up on all of them as well.
